1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They feature motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other top iRobot models (including the top pick) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans that avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it sees an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept in removing pet hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our first option. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a good value, especially if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save money. Plus, it's very quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for a wet one in seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be utilized to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great and it stayed clear of fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or at night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home using the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Additionally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would expect from its price tag. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has an impressive 8000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
